Region Studies

Seven grids in a circle, an arch, an L-shape and a blob

Twenty-eight studies in a seven by four grid: columns by grid (square, hex, rectangle, triangle, diamond, brick, panel), rows by region (circle, arch, L-shape, blob)

Overview

Every grid on the Phoenix tab is centred on its region and trimmed to it, but the studies so far all ran in a square. Twenty-eight studies, one definition: columns are the seven grids, sized as in the Voronoi studies, and rows are four regions that are not square: a circle, an arch, an L-shape with an inside corner, and a smooth blob with three bays. Each fills the same 120 × 120 in tile.

Each study is only the grid, region and sizes in and cells out. Across a row the region holds and the grid changes; down a column one grid fits each shape in turn, so what to compare is where the cells meet the edge.

Circle

A circle 120 in across: every edge cell is cut by a curve.

Arch

A half-round top on a 120 × 60 in base: straight edges below, a curve above.

L-Shape

The square less its upper right corner, 68 in square: the one inside corner of the four.

Blob

A smooth closed curve with three bays, as concave as it is convex.
